According to preliminary data from the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred at 02:45 AM UTC, centered approximately 77 km (48 mi) NNE of Punta Cana, at a depth of 68 km. Following the tremor, several aftershocks ranging from 3.3 to 3.7 magnitude were recorded within the next hour .
There were no tsunami warnings following the event.
