The Center for Biological Diversity is suing the Trump administration in a bid to compel the release of plans to lay off government workers and reorganize agencies.
The environmental group’s lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, aims to force the Office of Personnel Management to produce those agency records under the Freedom of Information Act.
The CBD submitted FOIA requests for the Trump team’s plans in March and April, and OPM has not acknowledged or released records in response to either request, the lawsuit says. The public records law requires agencies to respond to FOIA requests within 20 days except in cases of “unusual circumstances.”
Environmentalists contend that it’s urgent for the administration to release its plans for slashing the size of the government, which have been top priorities for President Donald Trump and the Elon Musk-led “Department of Government Efficiency” operation.
