German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, congratulated Georgians on Europe Day, expressing strong support for the country’s EU aspirations.
“We believe Georgia is part of Europe. Georgia should join the European Union,” he stated.
Fischer emphasized that membership depends on fulfilling known requirements.
“Europe is friendship and solidarity. Everyone knows what needs to be done, and I hope Georgia will do it so we can be united in one union.”
Asked why Georgia wasn’t invited to the informal EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Warsaw, Fischer explained:
“The EU decided in June last year to suspend high-level contacts with the Georgian government until the current crisis is resolved.”
He added that Georgia’s future in the EU depends on its people:
“I hope Georgia returns to the right path. Membership requires efforts from all citizens—not just the government or parliament, but the entire nation. We’ve offered you candidacy—that’s the best we could do.”
