Turkish Jets Interfere with Israeli Strikes in Syria

May 4, 2025 | 06:01 pm

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Turkish fighter jets reportedly issued electronic warning signals to obstruct Israeli aircraft operating in the Syrian airspace. Israel launched attacks on Syria, including in the Hama and Damascus areas.

According to the official Syrian news agency, SANA, as cited by New Arab, a civilian was killed and several others were injured in Israel's attack on the outskirts of Harasta and the city of al-Tall near Damascus. The attack took place last Friday, May 2, 2025.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority confirmed Turkish interference. Turkish aircraft sent warning signals and jammed Israeli fighter jets to get them to leave the Syrian airspace.

Turkish officials are reportedly frustrated by the expanding Israeli operations in Syria. Turkey views the attacks as disrupting regional interests and stability.

Just two days earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had urged Israel to stop its airstrikes, warning that these attacks are dangerous for Syria. Turkey also called on other countries to contribute to creating security and stability in Syria.

Several sources reported that an Israeli military helicopter briefly landed in Suwayda before departing. There was no clear reason for this landing.

The Israeli military then announced that they had targeted anti-aircraft batteries and surface-to-air missile infrastructure. Israel stated that it would continue to act as needed to protect Israeli citizens in Syria.

The most politically charged attack occurred the day before, near the presidential palace in Damascus. In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant referred to the attack as a warning message to the Syrian government. Netanyahu vowed not to tolerate the deployment of forces in southern Damascus or threats to the Druze minority in Syria.

However, Druze leaders have recently released a video reaffirming their loyalty to the Syrian state. They rejected calls for separation from Syria.
