Virginia Tech prepares for annual Remembrance Day events 2025
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Virginia Tech is preparing for their annual Remembrance Day events to honor the 32 victims of the campus shooting April 16, 2007.
Virginia Tech began their annual memorial traditions Sunday, April 13 with the Run in Remembrance. Hundreds of people participated and stopped by the April 16 Memorial afterwards to pay their respects.
The following events are set to take place Wednesday, April 16,
Wreath Laying and Moment of Silence 9:43 a.m.
Members of the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad will assist President Sands and Dr. Laura Sands place wreaths at the April 16 Memorial.
Cadet Guard 11:27 p.m.
Members of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will stand guard at the April 16 Memorial for 32 minutes.
Extinguishing of Ceremonial Candle 11:59 p.m.
The candle will be extinguished and the light will be carried back into Burruss Hall, representing Virginia Tech’s commitment to never forget.
Lighting of Ceremonial Candle midnight
The ceremonial candle will be lit by representatives of the student body and the names of the 32 Hokies lost on April 16, 2007 will be read followed by the playing of TAPS. Members of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will stand guard. The candle will remain lit for 24 hours.
